We are approaching the magical pumpkin hour…I am supposed to start seeing changes in the next 30 plus days.  Here is what has been achieved to date:

1) Serious increase in energy…seriously!

2) Complete repair of something embarrassing…the bladder…but it’s FIXED!

3) Balance has improved

And 4, something intangible…Everyone mentions that my general demeanor is much different, that my face looks different, more vibrant.

Off to PT…another week of physical therapy!

Still over 100 degrees here in the Lone Star State!  Even though it is so hot,  I have an amazing amount of energy and focus.  Frankly, I feel like the energizer bunny.  Shelley Simms, another Stem Cell Recipient, told me of this phenomenon.  I feel like I am 22 again.  In the past, I was incredibly fatigued most of the day, but that is gone.  That is a thrilling change worth noting…no?  Tomorrow I have my last physical therapy for the week.  I will probably have another month of PT and then I will look into joining a gym.  I need to keep this exercise thing going!

Yesterday, I had a serious training day.  I started on the treadmill and progressed to the elyptical machine.  After this, I worked on 5 weight machines, and then traditional work with my physical therapist Deb.  I am telling you that before the stem cell transplant, this kind of workout would have been impossible.  Yes, the muscles have been strengthened through all this exercise, but repair of the nerves had to happen first.  So even if I don’t see changes I can talk about (in terms of the legs), there obviously have been some.  As always, I am impatient for mid September through mid October, when I am told changes will really be evident!!  Stay cool 🙂

Friday, August 13, 2010…YIKES…just kidding

Just finished another week of pt.  I really get a lot of exercise in these sessions.  I am thinking of joining a gym.  I do a lot of cardio and I use weight machines, so this seems like a logical progression.  No new changes yet, but I think it is still early.  I do think I am probably on the cusp of some major stuff.  Don’t give up on me!!  I will not give up either!!  I will continue to post.  Thank you for keeping up with my story.  Judi

This morning was very interesting. I was putting on my tennis shoes, preparing to leave for exercise, and this amazing thing happened…I felt completely strong, completely balanced, completely repaired. Something is happening…..   Now, this feeling lasted only for a few minutes, but my therapist told me that I was stronger and she could definitely tell.  This may be the result of regular exercise, but I think it is more than that.  I am patiently waiting for the heat to let up, as I know this will help me.  Patience, patience!!!

I have completed another week of physical therapy.  I have pt 3 times a week as opposed to 5 times a week in Panama, so I try to get in some swimming and/or bike in between appointments.  I work a lot on core strength and the legs.  Also, we work on balance.  I am actually feeling stronger, but the intense heat coupled with the loss of my little dog this week have been a challenge.  It is truly amazing how attached we can get to our little furry friends.  These emotional times can really show up in the body!  Anyway, the main issue is to keep the exercise up to keep the stem cells activated and moving in the body.  I received a follow up call from a doctor from the Stem Cell Institute today.  He was checking on my progress.  It is still early yet, and some of the progress I made in the beginning is hiding a bit now.  There are other things that have definitely repaired.  I will continue to post, and I believe that I will have some great things to report very soon!!

Texas is HOT!!  Perfect weather to swim and catch up on the computer!  Physical Therapy is going VERY well.  My therapist is top notch.  I am so grateful that I found her.  She is challenging me in every way and I am definitely growing stronger.  I have Ivan and Deb’s expertise to thank for that.  I heard from Sam Harrell, the football coach from Ennis, Texas, that was a patient at the Stem Cell Institute at the same  time as I was.  He also has MS and he had lunch with Richard Humphries (another MS/Stem Cell patient from Texas)  He has had 2 follow ups and he has regained everything and is pretty much cured.  He was in tough shape…wheelchair, his wife had to feed him.  Cannot wait to see what the future has in store for me!!
